Funny Little Boy

The boys say funny things daily but today Sawyer was on a role! I love the silly stage he's in right now. He can make anything into a joke....sometimes inappropriate, but whatev.

These are some Sawyer quotes from today...

"I want to go to Michigan! They have ice cream there! I LOOOOOVE ice cream!"

Holding a playing card over his eye - "Look, I have an Ipod!"  Haha...Ipod, eye patch...same thing, right?

He has a serious love for baby Lydia. Just randomly he said, "I feel very sad for Lydia. She can't talk. She doesn't have teeth. Does she have a tongue?"

Max was hiding and we couldn't find him. Sawyer so sincerely asked, "Did he get pitched?"

He handed me his chewed up pink gum and it was kind of flattened. When he looked at it he did a double take. "My tongue?" LOL! He thought he handed me his tongue?!

And then there's this conversation:

Momma: I think at your next birthday you should turn 2 again!
S: No! :)
M: How about 1?
S: No! (laughing)
M: Fine, can you stay 3?
S: No, I can't!
M: Can you just go back in my belly?
S: Sure.

Besides being funny he had a very exciting day! He jumped off the diving board for the first time! He chickened out one time before but this time I could tell he was feeling brave.

I love that kid.

Tonight's conversation on the way home from church:

Max: A girl was being mean to Sawyer. I had to talk kind of serious to her. I pointed my finger at her.

Me: Sawyer, what did you do to her?

Max: He didn't do anything. He was just standing by me and she was being mean. I didn't like that. Not even one little bit.

Oooooh myyyyy. It was so hard to not laugh!

A Productive Workout

Ouchy wa wa. I went for a run the other day for the first time in quite a while. My nearly 30 year old body hurts! My ipod has had the same running mix on it for 3 years. Lots of up-beat music that I still couldn't tell you all the lyrics. Black-Eyed Peas, anyone?  I finally got around to updating my mix and put on some upbeat Christian music. I was running around the park, thinking about what God reveals about himself through nature, listening to praise music...the Holy Spirit was working on me during that run. I was brought near to tears, yelling in my head "Use me God. Use me!"

I am such a broken sinner. But I am redeemed! Praise God! I don't want to be idle in this Christian walk...just taking life in as it comes. I should be very aware of my role as God's child. So use me God....use me.

Who says boys can't play babies?

Mickey Mouse has been getting quite a bit of attention around here lately. Max has a stuffed Mickey that he and Sawyer have been playing "baby" with. Yesterday they rocked him, put him in a crib (a.k.a. their shoe bin), and showed him some TLC (not the 90's singing sensations). Before bed it was reading time. I found Max and Sawyer sitting by the makeshift crib reading to Mickey. This went on for about 20 minutes and then it was time for bed. Sawyer said, "Wait! I gonna kiss him and tell him a Incredible Hulk story." Sooooo funny. Sawyer leaned into the crib and kissed Mickey, then told a very action-packed story. There was lots of jumping involved.

Today Baby Mickey continued to be THE toy. Max put a diaper on him, got him dressed in a sleep sack, had 2 bibs for him (one for eating, one for spitting up of course!), and swaddled him. It really was very sweet. Sawyer has a stuffed Winnie the Pooh that he started babying. Although I think Sawyer ended up doing stunts with his swaddled Pooh. :) All in all they played babies for hours today! Not their usual football and cars games. It was fun to watch!

Bear Stories

Brody is quite the big boy lately. It is a true joy to watch him learn new things. The process of trying and failing is very entertaining when you're talking about a 16 month old! A new thing is nodding. He has tried it a few times while standing and he nods so hard that he throws himself down. True comedy! He throws his own diaper away...and occasionally pitches a toy or two. He points at the switches when we walk by them so he can turn the light on or off. I love these little things!

Last night I gave him some Tylenol (teething!) and after I put it back in the box he took it from me, walked down the hall, and reached up to the cabinet where it belongs. How did he know where it went?! I mean, he has been to that cabinet with me plenty of times but now I know he's paying attention!

Sawyer left a bag of Matchbox cars by the basement steps. Brody found them and carried them one by one to the living room by the front door. I wanted to just bring the bag to him and save all those steps (atleast 20 each way!) but it was so fun to see him happy to make the trip!

Brody wants to be doing what Max and Sawyer are doing. Therefore, he loves football. At any given time he can be found carrying a ball, football player figurine, or football helmet around the house. You know the little players that look like they are in the middle of a throw? Well, they come with teeny tiny helmets that I took off (choking hazard!). Oh no, that wasn't going to fly. If the player didn't have a helmet on, he had no interest! He wanted the REAL thing!

I thank God for him everyday!

Painting pumpkins! We wanted to go to a pumpkin patch but the weather was too cold and rainy. This was the next best thing! Poor B-Bear just had to watch :)

Movie Night!
Movies and popcorn and pumpkin whoopies, oh my!

I'll level with you...sometimes I have difficult days as a mom to 3 boys. Sometimes they melt down and sometimes I fall apart. But those days are not our norm. And today was the exact opposite. It was an amazefest. Let me paint the pretty picture of our Saturday.

In the morning, Max, Sawyer, and I made some goodies. Jell-o Jigglers and lemon cookies to be exact. The boys love to be in the kitchen and we really do have a great time together baking. Then we all took our time getting ready and headed out to the local flea market. This is favorite past-time of ours. You never know what you'll find! Like today we scored a new popcorn maker for 5 bones. The boys then laid down for a nap and I went out to my parents house to visit with them and my aunt and uncle who were in town from Florida. In the evening we went to a local Pizza Palooza event - until we got rained on! Maxy and I were holding hands, running to the van, loving the excitement of getting all wet. When we got home we all went to the toy room. The boys were playing so nicely that I decided to organize some of our craft and paper supplies. It was only 10 or so minutes before all 3 of the boys noticed I was busy. In Sawyer's words, "Don't work, Mommy." It was endearing. We finished the night off with our bedtime routine. I sang and rocked Brody. Lukas read the boys a story (Zacchaeus!) and then we told them their usual requested stories. Max always wants a "police man story - a long one who got somebody" and Sawyer wants an "Incredible Hulk story with Joker".

After shutting off the light, Max and Sawyer came out of their room. I took them back to bed but could tell they weren't quite ready to settle. So the 3 of us cuddled up in Maxy's bed for a little chat. Max asked about cigarettes. "Why do a lot of people smoke cigarettes at flea markets?" HAHA! And "Why do people hold their cigarettes like this?" He held up two fingers. He's such an observer. He concluded that we should not ask a smoker why they hold their cigarette like that or it would hurt their feelings. Sawyer piped up on the nicotine talk with "I had a cigarette on my shoe at the flea market today." He went on to tell me he purposely stepped on it.

After a while  I told the boys I better get them tucked in and go on out of their room. Sawyer squeezed me and said, "I love you sooo much." And  Max hugged my arm and said, " I love you. I want to see you for a long time." My cup runneth over. Who could leave after that? So I stayed a little longer and we sang together. Max's throat is scratchy so he listened while Sawyer and I sang Jesus Loves Me. Sawyer did a solo or two as well :) The tears welled up as I looked at those boys and thought of Brody lying in his crib and Lukas feeling content after a day with family.

Today really was picture perfect. BLESSED. Thank you, Jesus.

Sawyer is cuter than ever, in my opinion. His sentences always have lots of fluctuation and his little voice is just too sweet.  He likes to pick me flowers and leaves and say, "You can keep it! It's for you!" :))

We were at the park this evening and a little girl introduced herself as Lane and her grandma said she was 2 1/2 years old. Sawyer is very social in settings like this and jumped right in to play with her. At one point she was up on the slide and he was on the ground getting ready to climb the rock wall. He couldn't see her so he yelled out, "Hey, Girly?" I reminded him of her name but he preferred Girly. :)

He cut in front of Lane to get on the slide. She was gracious about it and didn't seem to mind. When he got to the bottom I told him he shouldn't have done that, he should have let her go first. He said, "Like Foofa?" Yep, like Foofa. Everything can relate back to Yo Gabba Gabba when you're 3 years old. There's an episode where Foofa cut in front of Toodee. It's a must-see.

If you are my Facebook friend you have heard the story of Carson Spies. He is the 6 week old son who went to be with Jesus after complications of a minor surgery. HEART BREAKING. My sister, Laura, is best friends with Carson's momma. As Laura would give me updates, "he has to have surgery", "he's on the ventilator", "he has to have a blood transfusion", "the outcome is unsure", it brought back so many feelings and worries that I had forgotten I experienced with Sawyer. It felt very close to home. Thinking of Tiffany, I couldn't help but weep for her during each step of the way.

Thousands of people were praying for Carson. Literally. That's an insane amount of people crying out to the Lord to spare this child's life. God answered our prayers differently than we hoped. He took Carson to Heaven. I didn't question God's love or sovereignty for the Spies family. But it was very hard to understand His method. How on earth was the death of this baby going to bring Him glory? Wouldn't it be a better testimony of how prayer works if Carson had lived? I had to start praying for a faith that is unwaivering and not doubting.

The Holy Spirit laid it on my heart that our Father knows what he's doing. Hello! Of course he does! I can't wrap my pea brain around how the loss of Carson is going to bring him glory, but He knows. And that's all that matters. How can I do anything but worship and praise him even more? He knows and I don't.

Thank you, Jesus, for answering my prayer to have unwaivering faith through this! He used Carson to grow me!

BIGGEST BIG BROTHER, MAX

Last night at Kidzz Klub (our churches kids program), Sawyer wanted to stay with Max. Although the age is 4 and up and Sawyer is only 3, the teacher graciously let him stay. Apparently Sawyer headed off to the bathroom with some older boys ( around 8 years old or so). Max saw Sawyer leaving and said, "My brother, I'm going with him!" Max said that he didn't want Sawyer going with those big boys and he wanted to make sure his little brother was safe. Bless his little heart. He then added, "If those boys would be mean to Sawyer, I'd hold on to their legs so they'd fall." Um, okay. Glad he thought that through. :)

Skip to tonight. Max has been hearing about Baby Carson (a 6 week old who went to be with Jesus yesterday) and I could tell he understood what was going on. He's a sensitive soul. Well, while playing in the toy room Brody got a hold of a foam ball and took a bite. I have no idea if that's okay or not so I called poison control to be safe. Max heard me say I was calling a nurse and I saw him disappear to the back of the house. After hanging up with the nurse (who told me Brody is fine), I went and found Max. He was curled up in the hallway very quietly crying. I asked what he was doing and he said, "I'm scared Brody might die." Then he sobbed. SAD! I explained to him that I knew Brody was not going to die from eating the ball and the nurse said he needs to drink some water and he'll be okay. After some comforting, he got up and found a bottle of water to offer Brody.

After the boys were in bed tonight and I was typing the paragraph above, Max and Sawyer came out to talk to me. This is how the conversation went:

Max: Mommy, Sawyer said he didn't trust Jesus. So I told him about Him and he kept saying, "How do you know?"
Sawyer: I don't love Jesus.
Max: SHOOT.
Sawyer: I don't.
Max: Oh no, is he going to go to Hell?
Me: Sawyer, let me tell you why you should love Jesus...

So we went back to their beds and I told Sawyer the gospel. He doesn't understand, but nothing is better than hearing about what Jesus did for those who believe in Him.

Max witnessed to his brother. Slightly humbling. I wish I were as bold as him.

GOOD BIG BROTHER.

Warning: Yucky Picture

I HAVE to post this picture. You know I do. The boys have colds and today has been the peek of it. This is how I found Brody this morning. It was STUCK to his face. He didn't let it hinder his mood though....such a happy baby!

Sawyer wanted a bedtime story about policemen. He's up a little late this evening so it had to be a short one. This is how it went...

There was once a policemen who was walking down the sidewalk. He heard "meow, meow". He looked up and saw a cat stuck up in the tree. So he climbed the tree and brought the cat safely down. Then the cat said, "Thank you." (I said the "thank you" in like a cat high-pitched voice.)

Sawyer was making a face - like looking out the corner of his eyes. I could just tell he was wondering if the story was true. So I told him it wasn't and that Mommy just made it up.

He said, "Cats don't talk?"
I said, "No, cats don't talk, silly!"
He asked, "Dogs talk?"
"No!"
"Papa talk?"
"Yes, Papa talks!"

Made me laugh! Why he relates his papa to animals, I don't know!

Wearing a Smurfs shirt, watching a Smurfs trailer and he says, "I like shmurfs."

Today's task: A princess cake for a little girl's third birthday!

Friday, February 24, 2012

Sawyer is doing so well! He has some of the "glue" left over that the doctor used to close some of his incisions. Also, his circumcision is a bit sore. Other than that though he is feeling and acting normal! Thank God!

He has received SO MANY cards in the mail! And the sweet gifts from friends and family are just so....sweet! I'm putting the cards away for Sawyer to read later on in life. He is a loved child!

Flashforward! Max listening to his favorite song on the ipod. I bet I'll be able to take a picture of him doing this very same thing in about 10 years! But it may be some futuristic music-playing device instead of an ipod. :)

Swim Lessons - Take 2

If you remember, this time last year Max had his one and only swim lesson. He was petrified and wouldn't get in the water. Well, the YMCA ended up flooding so he got out of any further lessons. Given that my dad has a pond, it is imperative that Max know how to swim. So we signed him back up for lessons and the first one was tonight!

To sum it up: Deja vu.

Driving to the lesson Max said, "It's okay if I'm nervous, right Mommy?"

So we got to the swim lesson and as soon as they called his name the tears started flowing. He's scared of the deep water. I went and got him a life vest and sat by him so he felt safe, but he was not going to get in that water. I talked him into dangling his feet in the water, which was improvement over last year. His teacher thought I should put him in and let her take him out on the kickboard, like the rest of the class was doing. So I did that and he cried the whole time. I said, "See, Maxy, it's okay! You were safe and it's fun to be in the water!" He said, "No, it's not okay! My legs are shaking!" :((  I put him in a second time and it was the same reaction.

I made him sit down with his class by the water and I was talking to him about how he was safe in this environment and we prayed. I told him he wouldn't go under and that Mommy wouldn't let him do something that wasn't safe for him. As I'm explaining this, the kid next to him let go of the edge and went about 2 feet under! All my credibility was GONE at that point. I pulled the kid out of the water - getting myself soaked. The poor drowning child was very little and I'm pretty certain I will have nightmares tonight about his big eyes looking at me and arms reaching straight up. Freaking scary!!

We're going to go back to his next lesson and see if we can get him to stay in the water with his class. Next time though, Lukas is taking him. Maybe Max will feel braver with Daddy around.

In the meantime, I'm going to have a piece of Auntie Sharon's blueberry pie. I need comfort food. Don't judge me. ;)
